What is category 6 cable

Ethernet cables are used to connect individuals as well as companies via the world of computers and internet.

Category 6 (Cat6) cable is an Ethernet network cable standard, which is defined by the Electronic Industries Association and Telecommunications Industry Association (EIA/TIA). Category 6 cable is a 6th generation of twisted pair Ethernet technology.
Category 6 cable is made with four pairs of copper wire.

It fully utilized all four pair (unlike its predecessor, category 5 cable) and supports Gigabit Ethernet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) as well as communications at more than twice the speed of Category 5e cable.

The enhanced version of Category 6 cable is known as Category 6a. Category 6a cable supports up to 10 Gbps speeds.
